18 Operating Procedures for Argon Arc Welding!

  1. Argon arc welding must be operated by a dedicated person on the switch.
  2. Check whether the equipment and tools are in good condition before work.
  3. Check whether the welding power supply and control system have grounding wires, and add lubricating oil to the transmission part. The rotation must be normal, and the argon and water sources must be unobstructed. If there is any water leakage, notify the repair immediately.
  4. Check if the welding gun is functioning properly and if the grounding wire is reliable.
  5. Check whether the high-frequency arc ignition system and welding system are normal, whether the wire and cable joints are reliable, and for automatic wire argon arc welding, also check whether the adjustment mechanism and wire feeding mechanism are intact.
  6. Select polarity based on the material of the workpiece, connect the welding circuit, generally use DC positive connection for materials, and use reverse connection or AC power supply for aluminum and aluminum alloys.
  7. Check whether the welding groove is qualified, and there should be no oil stains, rust, etc. on the groove surface. Oil and rust should be removed within 200mm on both sides of the weld.
  8. For those using molds, their reliability should be checked, and for welded parts that need to be preheated, preheating equipment and temperature measuring instruments should also be checked.
  9. The argon arc welding control button must not be far away from the arc, so that it can be turned off at any time in case of a malfunction.
  10. It is necessary to regularly check for leakage when using high-frequency arc ignition.
  11. In case of equipment failure, power should be cut off for maintenance, and operators are not allowed to repair on their own.
  12. It is not allowed to be naked or expose other parts near the arc, and smoking or eating are not allowed near the arc to prevent ozone and smoke from being inhaled into the body.
  13. When grinding thorium tungsten electrodes, it is necessary to wear masks and gloves, and follow the operating procedures of the grinding machine. It is best to use cerium tungsten electrodes (with lower radiation levels). The grinding wheel machine must be equipped with a ventilation device.
  14. Operators should wear static dust masks at all times. Try to minimize the duration of high-frequency electricity during operation. Continuous work shall not exceed 6 hours.
  15. The argon arc welding workplace must have air circulation. Ventilation and detoxification equipment should be activated during work. When the ventilation device fails, it should stop working.
  16. Argon cylinders must not be bumped or smashed, and must be placed upright with a bracket and kept at least 3 meters away from open flames.
  17. When performing argon arc welding inside the container, a specialized face mask should be worn to reduce inhalation of harmful fumes. There should be someone outside the container to supervise and cooperate.
  18. Thorium tungsten rods should be stored in lead boxes to avoid injury caused by excessive radioactive dose exceeding safety regulations when a large number of thorium tungsten rods are concentrated together.
