Possible Causes of Arc Instability in CO2 welding and Its Solutions

Cause of occurrence

① The size of the inner hole of the contact tip is not appropriate

② The contact tip is worn

③ Welding wire feeding is unstable

④ Network voltage is fluctuating

⑤ The distance between the contact tip and the workpiece is too large

⑥ The welding current is too low

⑦ The grounding is unstable

⑧ The diameter of welding wire is unstable

Solutions

① The contact tip that matches the diameter of the welding wire should be used

② The inner hole of the contact tip may become larger, resulting in poor conductivity, please change the contact tip on time

③ Whether the welding wire is winding too messy? 

   Whether the welding wire spool rotates smoothly?

  Whether the size of the roller of wire feeder is appropriate?

  Whether the clamping force of the pressure roller too small?

  Whether the curvature of the guide tube is too small?

④ Do not change the primary voltage too much

⑤ The distance should be 10-15 times of the diameter of the welding wire

⑥ Use current that matches the diameter of the welding wire

⑦ Reliable grounding should be ensured (poor contact may come from rusting, paint, or oil stains on the base material)

⑧ Select welding wires with appropriate diameters according to the required droplet transfer process.
